Chicago Man Convicted In Brutal Sexual Assault
During Home Invasion

A Chicago man was convicted today of the brutal sexual assault of a Lincoln Park woman during a 2010 home invasion, according to the Office of Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez

Darrell Moore, 23, was convicted by a jury of 11 counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and one count of Home Invasion for repeatedly assaulting a female victim after he and three co-defendants broke into her Lincoln Park apartment in September 2010.  Moore faces up to 66 years in prison when he is sentenced next month.

According to prosecutors, Moore and three others entered the victim’s home by pulling down a window off the porch.  After entering the victim’s bedroom Moore proceeded to sexually assault the victim and threatened to kill her if she did not meet his demands.  On several occasions, Moore led the victim around the apartment demanding money and jewelry, then forced her back into the bedroom and continued the attack.

Eventually, a neighbor noticed the victim’s purse on the back stairs and called authorities.  When Chicago Police Officers arrived and attempted to make contact with the victim, Moore covered the victim’s mouth so she could not alert authorities.  Responding officers then entered the apartment and found Moore still in the victim’s bed.

Multiple condoms recovered at the scene matched the DNA of Moore and the victim.

All three of Moore’s co-defendants in this case later pled guilty to Home Invasion.

State’s Attorney Alvarez thanked Assistant State’s Attorneys Mary Jackovac, Michelle Papa, Angela Carlisle  and the Chicago Police Department for their work on this case.
